History

While Chomic Combat Karate has been creating champions since 2022, Tang Soo Do has a rich history.

1968 - The story begins

In 1968, Master Jae Chul Shin came to the United States of America as the U. S. representative for the Korean Tang Soo Do Association. He formed the U. S. Tang Soo Do Federation in Burlington, New Jersey in 1968. This traditional Korean Martial Art was quickly accepted and soon grew in popularity throughout the World.

"ONE MORE TIME."

Grandmaster Shin envisioned an association of professional martial artists held together by their dedication to the traditions of Tang Soo Do and their commitment to the principles embraced in the concept of Brotherhood/Sisterhood. He knew that the differences we have in social status, ethnic origin, beliefs, or politics would not define us. What would define us would be our respect for each other, our commitment to Tang Soo Do, and our dedication to the betterment of ourselves and our communities. He taught that Tang Soo Do, even in the most stressful situations, would lead us to act with self-control and to demonstrate human decency.

1982 - History in the making

A charter convention of the World Tang Soo Do Association was held in Philadelphia, PA., USA. With the advent of the World Tang Soo Do Association, Tang Soo Do began a new era of development as a traditional martial art.

1996 - Champions

2012 - Passing of a legend

With the passing of Founder and Grand Master Jae-Chul Shin, Robert Beaudoin became the new Grandmaster. Grandmaster Beaudoin was promoted to the rank of 8th Dan at the 2010 World Championships at the same event where Grandmaster Shin was promoted to 9th Dan. Throughout his martial arts career, loyalty has been one of the central tenets of his training and one of the primary attributes he has passed onto his students. As he began his tenure as Grandmaster of the World Tang Soo Do Association, he asked for unity and loyalty among all Masters, instructors and students in order to continue the vision of our founder, Grandmaster Shin. Grandmaster Beaudoin unfortunately passed away in 2020.

2020 and beyond- Grand Master STrong

On April 1, 2017 the Board of Directors approved Grandmaster Strong as President of the World Tang Soo Do Association. He began the presidency on May 15, 2017. In this position, he is responsible for numerous administrative duties for the World Tang Soo Do Association and the WTSD Foundation. The WTSDA Board of Directors recommended and approved his promotion to 9th Dan in the Fall of 2020 with the formal ceremony conducted in October 2021 at the US National Championship.

2022 - Chomic Combat Karate in St. Augustine, FL

Mr. Nicholas Chomic opens Chomic Combat Karate in 2022 in St. Augustine, FL, introducing the locals Tang Soo Do and introducing the area to the World Tang Soo Do Association.

"Chomic Combat Karate (CCK) is a traditional martial arts school that teaches the art of Tang Soo Do, with origins dating back over 2000 years. There is no doubt we all need self-defense skills. Equally important are physical fitness & methods for the release of daily stress – No matter whether you are seeking self-defense, better health, physical fitness or discipline, our CCK team can meet your needs. However, CCK has its own unique character which differentiates it from any other form of martial arts or martial sports. Thereal value of CCK is not the belt you earn, but the changes that occur withinyou, in your quest for them. These changes include the betterment of mind, bodyand spirit, also the development of individual character and respect forothers. The other goal of CCK training is to use the lessons you learn in the studio to enrich every part of your life."
